Although the storm capsized and sank destroyers Hull (DD-350), Monaghan (DD-354) and Spence (DD-512), Wisconsin escaped the storm unscathed. WebThe Kentucky was later on scrapped after its bow was removed to serve as a replacement for the Wisconsin's bow after it suffered a collision with the USS Eaton during 1956. Montana was the third ship to be named in honor of the 41st state, and was assigned to the Philadelphia Navy Yard.
