WebIn the late Saxon period North Elmham was of great importance, and was the principal seat of the Bishops of East Anglia. This cathedral went out of use after the seat of the Bishop was transferred to Thetford in 1071. The chapel is thought to have been built by Bishop Herbert De Losinga, in the very late 11th or early 12th centuries.
