They can make 650-800rwhp for years particularly the 04+ versions with the big rods. 4.8 are even cheaper and hold a shit ton of boost as well. I used 5.3 with 80k in a GTO and made 650rwhp with nothing more than a 5.3 shortblock, 6.0 heads, LS6 cam and intake and a 76mm turbo. Dead nuts reliable.
